As part of its ongoing mission to empower marginalized communities, Bana Group for
Peace and Development has made psychosocial support a central pillar of its activities.
Across Sudan, Bana has provided psychosocial services in various regions, including El
Fasher, Mellit, Nyala, Zalingei, and El Geneina, where women received counseling and
emotional support. In Khartoum (Dar es Salaam and Omdurman), the focus was on
providing psychological support for children and partnering with HOPE Organization during
periods of revolution. In Gezira, White Nile, Halfa, and Kassala, Bana conducted activities
promoting peaceful coexistence, addressing hate speech, and supporting women through
trauma-informed care. Following the war, Bana established a new office in Kampala,
Uganda, which now serves as a regional hub offering psychosocial support, transitional
justice programs, peacebuilding efforts, advocacy campaigns, and reproductive health
services. The Kampala office works directly with Sudanese communities in areas such as
Kisasi, Seta, Samiba, Nalyabuli, Wandegeya, and Najjera. Expanding on this
commitment, Bana has also initiated psychosocial support efforts in Cairo, Egypt. Two
workshops have already been held targeting different age groups, and two more are planned
in new locations. These workshops, conducted in partnership with HOPE for Psychosocial
Support and Al-Tasamuh Centre for Training and Skills Development, use art therapy,
trauma management techniques, and interactive dialogue to help participants process
trauma and reconnect with their inner strength. This comprehensive work reflects Bana’s
belief that healing is foundational to peacebuilding and that every person, especially women
from marginalized communities, deserves access to psychological support and safe spaces.
