Centering Sudanese Voices – A People’s Conference
On 11. April 2026, the newly founded Germany chapter of Bana, a Sudanese intersectionally feminist network, gathered much over 100 guests for a People’s Conference – just days before the governmental Sudan Summit in Berlin on 15. April, and three years into the current war in Sudan. The conference brought together activists, researchers, and community members to foreground Sudanese civilian perspectives.
Berlin, 14. April 2026. „With ‚Centering Sudanese Voices‘, Bana wants to highlight its demand that civilians, and particularly women and people from the marginalised areas who are mostly affected by the war, need to be central to any effort and decision-making to end the conflict and create lasting peace. Furthermore, Bana demands to urgently address the conflict on different levels, as humanitarian aid alone cannot end the war. There also needs to be a control of weapons flows and sanctions on those responsible for them, stopping the trade of resources extracted by the conflict parties, and ensuring accountability of perpetrators, to achieve lasting peace.“ says Bana initiator Mai Shatta.
